2015 Currently taking a break from Birth Attendant/Doula Services
My philosphy and vision
I believe birth is a women's issue, choice is a right, and this is political. To continue to raise awareness of the choices for women in birthing their babies and empowering them in their birth rites. It's your body, your baby and your choice. Women's innate knowledge of how to birth their babies, is there for all of us. Support, education, love and trust in this process with minimum interruption is what is required, and to understand that Birth is as Safe as Life Gets.
To support women and families who have experienced traumatic birth, specialising in VBAC.
Empowered birth, empowered women, empowered families makes for healthy communities.
Benefits of a Birth Attendant
A Birth Attendant or Doula walks along side you and your family, supporting your birth choices with empathy and compassion, helping you to become an informed consumer in your birth journey. I am not a midwife and will not administer clinical care, my role is one of support entirely for the birthing mother and the birth team. This can involve and usually does, the time of pregnancy, birth and shortly thereafter.
Support from a Birth Attendant has proven to reduce the need for medical intervention. Studies still consistently show that women who have doulas during their labours experience:
50% reduction in caesarean rates.
25% shorter labors.
60% reduction in epidural requests.
40% reduction in the use of pitocin.
30% reduction in requests for pain relief.
40% reduction in forceps deliveries.
